CUMNOCK is already feeling the benefits of the new shopping units in Townhead Street.

The seven new shopping units will replace the condemned Glaisnock Shopping Centre which is due to be bulldozed later this year.

Britain's largest bakery chain, Greggs have already opened their new store at the new development. The firm opened on Townhead Street last month and have already brought five new jobs to the town.

The new store now includes seating and free wi-fi is also available for customers who sit in for their food.

Greggs have kept the staff that worked in the Glaisnock Centre to welcome customers to the new store.

Helen McCartney, shop manager at Greggs Townhead Street, said: “I’m very proud to be managing this new-look shop in its new improved location. The shop team are looking forward to hearing what the local community think of the new shop.”

Raymond Reynolds, retail director for Greggs, added: “We’re delighted to be able to invest in Cumnock and provide our valued customers with a modern and comfortable relocated shop shop. This underlines our long-term commitment to the area and I’m sure it will be enjoyed by existing and new customers alike.”

The store has even extended is opening hours to meet customer demands, opening from 7am until 6pm from Monday until Friday, 7am until 5pm on Saturday and it is now open on Sunday's from 10am until 5pm.

Work at all seven of the brand new units is now complete.

The new tenants are now in the process of moving to their new premises and are free to open for business.

The Glaisnock Shopping Centre will close when the final tenant moves out.

Only six of the seven units have been snapped up so far and East Ayrshire Council is currently talking with potential tenants about taking it over.

The Glaisnock Centre will then be demolished when all tenants are out and it is expected that a planning application will be lodged to redevelop the site.
