THREE years of hard work are finally at an end for the group behind the redevelopment of Townhead Park.

Work at the home of Cumnock Juniors saw the side temporarily forced to relocate to the hospitable surroundings of Rosebank Park, the home of Lugar Boswell Thistle for a season.

But Cumnock finally returned home at the beginning of the new campaign to the brand new Townhead Community Sports Hub.

Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise (CJCE) are currently in the process of putting the finishing touches to what has been a long journey to convert Townhead Park to the multi-use Community Sports Hub.

The Hub officially opened for business back in June and use of the facility has sky rocketed, with over 5,000 visits by customers participating in a range of events.

The charity group took out a 99 year lease for the facility back in 2013.

Eric Bennett from CJCE said: "Since then there has been a drastic transformation from a limited use grass facility to a state-of-the-art 3G synthetic surface complete with security fencing and floodlighting.

"The stadium and pavilion have also received a facelift and additional changing rooms and accessibility features have been added to make it one of the best grounds in junior football.

"The community hub is the centre for a host of youth, amateur, junior and pro-youth teams, who use the facility weekly for training and games.

"They are set to be joined by teams from Cumnock Rugby FC who will train midweek and play youth games at weekends."

CJCE are now also introducing youngsters to the beautiful game, delivering the Nock Tots classes for nursery and primary school children.

Over the coming months a range of other sports will be introduced, including archery, walking football, walking netball and all-ability cycling.

All sports are delivered by trained coaches and instructors.

Eric added: "We have established a true community facility and we will grow and provide more opportunities and more activities."
