A HERO Sanquhar man has completed an incredible 300-mile trek from his home to the northern tip of the UK mainland.

Callum Taylor set off on his journey on Saturday, April 13 in a quest to raise money for Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary's stroke rehab ward, which took care of his mum, Jacky.

Two weeks and 300 miles later, Callum reached John o' Groats to signal the end of his mammoth walk.

Last June, Callum's mum sadly suffered a brain aneurysm.

After going through life-saving surgery, Jacky then faced numerous trips to surgery to deal with complications from the initial bleed.

Callum and his family were told that his caring mum had suffered eight bleeds to the brain and four strokes.

After being transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Jacky was then went through the horror of complications resulting from a procedure to insert a feeding tube.

Thankfully, Callum and his family welcomed Jacky back home just before Christmas, with the 43-year-old continuing her recovery to this day.

Callum completed the walk and has so far raised over £12,000 for the hospital's ward.

After a six-hour drive home from his final destination, Callum was greeted by loving friends and family who congratulated him on all he had achieved.

But it was back to reality in an instant for Callum, as he was up at 6am the next day for work.

Callum said: “I wanted to do something that would push my own limits.

“The walk has taken me through some amazing places that I doubt I would have seen otherwise.

“I always wanted to go and do another challenge and then this happened with my mum and I saw it as a way to give back to the hospital for taking such good care of my mum.

"A huge thanks to everyone who has helped me on this journey from sponsors, donators and friends and family.

"None of this would’ve been possible without any of you."
