LUGAR boss Derek McMurdo reckons he has a side that rivals any in the Ayrshire District League.

The Rosebank boss saw his side recover from a nightmare start to the season with a hard fought 1-0 win against Muirkirk last week and he insists that it's too early to write off his side.

Lugar shipped 16 goals in their opening two fixtures but that was amid a squad crisis for McMurdo who had just 9 signed players available for their 9-0 drubbing at Saltcoats.

Speaking this week, McMurdo said: "The start hasn't been ideal, but last week against Muirkirk was the first time I've had a full squad to be honest.

"We were down to the bare bones in the first two games and I was extremely confident going into the Muirkirk game when I had almost a full squad to chose from.

"It's been a rebuilding job here. Lugar were on the verge of going out the game all together just a couple of years ago and we're trying to rebuild a club who are a sleeping giant in terms of Ayrshire football.

"Lugar's name has been trashed over the last few years and we just want to build it back up again.

"The Ayr United project was exactly that, Ayr's project. We need to make Lugar a respectable side again and that's what we are trying to to behind the scenes.

"We have a squad that can match anybody in the league and promotion is still our target for the season."

The Bunnets are in Scottish Cup action this weekend when they travel to face Jeanfield Swifts in the Scottish Junior Cup.
